On April 7, 2015, the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute jointly organized by Kansas State University and Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban was held in the Alumni Center. Kirk Schulz, then president of Kansas State University, April Mason, provost and executive vice president of Kansas State University, Yang Zhenbin, director of the Board of Trustees of Jilin University, and Liu Jun, deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago and other representatives of about 150 people attended the ceremony.

President Schultz delivered remarks at the unveiling ceremony. He said that the establishment of the Confucius Institute is a milestone in the history of Kansas State University, which represents the belief that Kansas State University will continue to promote internationalization, and expressed confidence that it will become the best Confucius Institute.
