In memory of this great president, on June 26, 1934, the United States Congress passed a resolution to allocate $3 million to build the Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal lake in Washington, D.C., and set up a special committee for this purpose. Even the heavy shelling of World War II did not stop the construction of the Jefferson Memorial. On April 13, 1943, the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth, the Jefferson Memorial was dedicated and opened to the public, and has now become a famous tourist attraction in Washington.
